This year will total 37 weeks of class.
You proved your worth and you are no begginner, now's the time to learn the job, and get the best education possible to enter the AAA concept art industry.
Character art, VR sculpting, environment, design, color & light but also business and industry talks are some of the different courses you'll have during this intense first year, all taught by the best in the field.
INTRODUCTION TO CONCEPT ART
Introduction to the concept art industry and professional techniques
-How to do your research, get references, build a moodboard and a reference folder
-How to improve your design, create a compelling story and the role of design in your creations
-The art of composition, how to study movies and why
-Thumbnail building and storyboarding to a finished piece
-Designing with a theme, designing with confidence
-"Post" techniques and polish
TOOLS FOR CONCEPT ART
You will need to master the tools and techniques for professionnal concept art
-Introduction to Blender, advanced modeling, Grease, EVEE
-Introduction to concept with VR using Oculus Rift S, and modelling with Medium & Gravity Sketch
-How to render your scenes quickly using Octane
-When is the right time to use any of these tools, when it is efficient. You will learn all the techniques, find your "sweet spot" and improve upon it.
INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT DESIGN
You will learn a specific technique for interior design.
-How to use references properly, build 3D blockouts, create sketches and how to use them to reinforce the narrative.
- How the storytelling, goals, lighting intentions and gameplay decisions will get your environment to the next level.
You'll learn figure and head drawing from real life studies in class and from professional briefs.
-Learn the relationship betwen shape and character design, the importance of silhouettes and personality.
-How to bring individual identity and how to handle the client needs properly.
Learn about world building and how it is led by form language.
-How to use form language and the benefits of using it.
-The power of 2D sketching, and how to translate it into VR and 3D in general.
-How to use small details to establish scale and reinforce believability
-Design your own environment and the charaters that live in it.
COLOR & LIGHT
Creating compelling concept art through the design of color & light
-Understanding theatrical design and organizing the complexities of color into engaging harmonies.
-The technical nature of color and what needs to be known to make the audiance believe.
-Staging images through the design of light.
-Visual development with color and light.
-Plein air painting in Paris.
DESIGN FOR ENTERTAINMENT
Learn the methods and techniques great directors and designers use to deliver powerful story experiences.
-Brainstorming and putting ideas together.
-Teamwork as an art department and how to maintain a specific art direction throughout a production/project.
-Finding innovative ways to produce concept art.
-Analyzing of different types of shapes and their unconscious meaning.
-Learn the importance of emotional and practical information with design in images.
-Controlling the focal point and the reading direction of the viewer.
-The importance of symbols in a painting and simplification.
CONCEPT ART FOR
VFX GRADUATION PROJECTS
For the first time, you'll work as a team for a client. The New3dge 3D animation & VFX students will give you a brief and a visual bible they designed, alongside early concepts. You will then have to push the designs and create environments and character as you would for a client.
Your concepts will impact a very real short film that will come out the following year and shown in a theatre in Paris.
Throughout the year, some time will be dedicated to applying your newly acquired techniques.You will be supervized in the making of your portfolio to ensure you are building a strong profile for future recruiters. You will also start to develop your own style while pushing your art to the next level.
